Redoing the Easy Stuff

Well, I have to redo the first assignment. A pain in the behind to be sure, but needed. As I said in my first or second 'blog I wasn't sure if I had done it right. As it turns out I didn't, so I gotta rock-n-roll on it this evening before class. It is hard to concentrate though, the White Sox clinched the division today and I am distracted. Yea! What a great season.
I am developing an etch-a-sketch brain, if I shake my head too much information disappears. But it crops up without bidding sometimes in other places. Shortcuts that Mike shows us in class are being put to use in my other classes as I begin to do more and more research. I find I have to stop myself from using image uploads in journal review papers. I suppose sometime soon illustrating a document will become mandatory rather than taboo.

Blackboard Article Reaction

My life reflects the subject matter of the Article in New York Time Out. I feel "duck pecked" quite often as I struggle to keep up with all the reading and assugnment work I have to finish. One of the interviewees in the article expressed my feelings very well "I don't think I'm as smart as I used to be," he says. "I just think I'm reacting more quickly, which just makes you appear to be smarter." (TimeoutIssue 445: April 8–15, 2004)
Appearances can be decieving as we all know.

Irony Out of the Blue

I received a call, out of the blue, from a casting agency yesterday; Claire Simon Casting. Claire is an old friend. She was my first agent and she has been great about calling me in for projects that would suit me as an actor instead of just using me to fill out a list of potentials given to a client. When Claire or one of her people call I can be assured that the audition will be for something that I might actually get cast in. They called to ask me to audition today for a history channel program on William McKinley.
Here's the irony. Today is my Sis' birthday. When I helped move my Sis to Brooklyn while she was participating in the NYC Fellows program. I told her that in my travels back and forth across I-80 I would choose a different spot to stop and do a touristy type thing (i.e. see a site, go to a grave of someone I admire or a museum). We stopped at the William McKinley library. I was not very impressed with Mr. McKinley and more than a little annoyed by the similarities between his presidency and the current one. They both seem overrun with corporate influence and crony patronage. At least Mac got Hawaii (Hooray!) as a territory, Bushie is bringing us Baghdad and 40,000 thieves. I found the unusual synchronicity of the audition date and my Sis' birthday amusing and ironic that the one place that we chose to stop would be the library of the president I would be asked to portray in the audition.
I had to turn down the opportunity. I am too busy with school and don't have the flexibility in my schedule to accept the role should I be fortunate enough to have it offered. However, I did a little make-up test to see if I could make myself resemble such a homely guy. The good news is I could, the bad news is it didn't take as much make-up as I had expected.

And on the Third Day

I kind of blew the Assignment 15 the class was doing for today. I turned in something which reflects what I was doing but it is not specifically what was assigned. This sort of thing seems to happen on a regular basis for me since I came back to school. I spend alot of time doing the work (I seem to be slower at tasks than others) only to discover I have done the incorrect thing or partially wrong at the very least. Tonight we are learning to create a webpage which I am looking forward to.
My webpage was created without too much trouble. I cannot remember how o make a link right now but will add a link in the near future to this blog or a link from the web page here. My classes this semester have thus far been filled with little "aha!" moments where I either confirm something I had always suspected or learn to do something the proper way after having figured it out on my own in some hunt and peck method in the past. Example learning to use the right click button on the mouse to copy pages and images for texts

Initial Test Fight

This is the beginning of a class which will be the foundation for many other classes. The skills and information that will be culled in the semester ahead should aid us in our careers. The initial class was an efficient introduction to the computer lab. What a pleasure to use reasonably up-to-date equipment which is currently working well. The first assignment was the creation of this 'blog. I have always wanted to do a 'blog but needed a slight kick in the keester to begin. I will enjoy this part of the class. My sister has been writing a long and fascinating 'blog account of her adventures in NYC as a Teaching Fellow in Queens. I doubt this will be as much fun for the reader but it will help me to maintain a focus on this class.
